After we posted the discussion on dry skin a few days ago, we received an in-box full of e-mails from people asking questions. What is the “Magical Secret to Beautiful Soft Skin”? Who knew this would prove to be such a popular subject. That and the history of the organics “biz”, some parts of which irk us to no end. But we’ll have a post on that later.
One woman, from New Hampshire, wrote us that no matter what she does in the Winter, moisturize ad-nauseum, drink water, take vitamins her skin still looks like a dust-bin. Several other people had similar commentary. Here is your prescription for spectacular skin:
EXFOLIATE religiously. We do. Everyone on our staff exfoliates at least twice a week in the winter. Topical cell turnover seems to slow down in the Winter, maybe as a mechanism to protect against cold and the fact that in the Summer you are outdoors so maybe there are some natural exfoliants at work such as more sweating and therefore more washing etc. Boost Skincare carries an amazing Volcanic Sugar facial exfoliant that there is now a waiting list for. We prefer a sugar based formula because the sugar crystals dissolve after a few nice rubs so that you also don’t over-do it.
Moisturize wet. You’ll look funny but heck, you’re in your own house so who cares. Apply your lotion or cream over a wet face. It’s hard to get the hang of at first, you need to more or less pat it on. Let it air dry. You’ll be amazed. Your face will look like a teenager’s. You can still use your foundation and cream (dry won’t work) blush after, but we’re hoping you’ve caught on to the less is more train and you’re not spackling. Even foundation you should pat on, try not to rub it around too much. And you won’t need as much either!
